The Indian festival Diwali is Saturday, October 17.
During this four day celebration people put aside differences in religion and celebrate with family, food, friends.
"Every home, be it a hut or a mansion is decorated with illuminating Diyas and candles. The entrance are ornamented with flowers and rangolis."
In Chicago celebrate Diwali with two funky parties. On Friday, October 16 Bhangratheque hosts its 3rd annual Diwali party at Funky Buddha Lounge . DJ Jimmy Singh and DJ Exception will spin the best of Bhangra, Bollywood and international beats. Plus, Indian inspired drink specials all night.
At Wild Hare see Chicago's outstanding band Funkadesi perform live Indian-reggae beats.
Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Deepawali’ which means “rows of lights."
