The 13th Annual European Union Film festival in Chicago screens the Italian film I am Love - (IO SONO L'AMORE) directed by Luca Guadagnino.
Considered a major discovery at international film festivals last year, I AM LOVE had critics reaching for comparisons to Sirk and, especially, Visconti in its elegant portrayal of a wealthy Milan family undone by melodramatic disaster. The stage is set when heir-apparent Tancredi is snubbed by his father, but the coup de grâce comes when Tancredi’s apparently contented wife (the amazing Swinton, speaking undubbed Russian-accented Italian) embarks on a mad affair with her son’s friend and business partner. Guadagnino’s lush visual style is complemented by an outstanding score (his first for a film) by noted American composer John Adams. In Italian, English, and Russian with English subtitles.
